- The In-charge of the centre is responsible
for conducting demonstrations. He is the nodal person so far as execution of the programme
is concerned.
- The districts having minimum area of 15000
ha for pigeonpea are selected for conducting the demonstrations. Besides acreage, the
potentiality of the area for special programme has also been taken into account.
- Within the district the most productive
development block is selected.
- Within the block, a cluster of 2-3
villages having maximum potential for pigeonpea production are earmarked.
- The location of the village and site of
the demonstrations are easily approachable, preferably on national or state high ways.
This helps to organize "Field Days", training programme etc.
- Minimum of 10 demonstrations are laid out
in each selected district.

Rhizobium culture, plant protection chemicals including weedicides, if recommended, are
borne from this fund, whereas expenditure on preparation of fields, sowing, inter culture

the production technology in easily understandable language is made available alongwith
seeds. Operations like seed treatment, inoculation, fertilizer application, sowing,
application of pesticides, weeding, irrigation and harvesting are carried out as per
directions of the subject matter specialist/university recommendation. All important and
crucial operations are carried out under the personal supervision of the scientist or his
representative.

Breeder, Agronomist, Entomologist and Plant Pathologist visit to these demonstrations
two-three times during the crop season to assess the overall impact of technology transfer
and to critically examine the qualitative and quantitative constraints to use them as feed
back for further refinement of the technology.
- In case of sudden out-break of disease or
pest, the concerned subject matter specialist immediately visits and gives his
report/opinion for corrective measures.
- These demonstrations are utilized as a
tool for rapid dissemination of the technology. To achieve this objective,
"Farmers Days" by inviting the farmers through development agencies is
arranged. On the occasion of Kisan Melas organized by respective
university/Institute/Stations, these demonstrations are also used for field visit. Maximum
